Programme features

The scientific programme comprises various styles of presentations and sessions, each offering a unique opportunity to discuss new and important scientific information. Descriptions of the presentation and session types appear below.

Plenary

Daily plenary sessions bring the entire conference together for invited talks on some of the most pressing issues facing the HIV prevention research field. Plenary sessions include award and scholarship presentations.

Symposia

Symposia highlight cutting-edge scientific developments and challenges in the field in 60-minute sessions that include presentations by invited speakers, followed by a brief Q&A. Symposia topics may cover issues that span the HIV prevention field (e.g., standards of care in HIV prevention trials) or focus on a topic more specific to one particular form of HIV prevention research (e.g., structure-based design in HIV vaccine development).

Roundtables

Roundtable sessions are designed to highlight different perspectives on the same issue and to provide opportunities for debate and discussion around hot topics in the field. Roundtables include more time for moderated discussion and audience feedback than other session formats.

Oral Abstract Sessions

Oral abstract sessions include eight-minute presentations of high-scoring abstracts that detail new prevention studies including key findings, implications for the field and directions for future research. Oral abstract sessions are organized by topic and field of research and include live Q&A.

On-demand Posters

Poster presentations will be available for attendees to view on demand. There will be a designated chat window for each poster, where attendees can interact with the presenting author and answer questions.

Publication-only Abstracts

Abstracts of acceptable quality that are not selected by the HIVR4P // Virtual Programme Organizing Committee for presentation at the conference may be chosen for inclusion online in the HIVR4P // Virtual Conference Proceedings, a Journal of the International AIDS Society supplement.
