Local Charitable Giving Programme
The Local Charitable Giving Programme financially supports a local project each year in the city that is hosting the HIVR4P Conference, the International AIDS Conference and the IAS Conference on HIV Science.
Delegates are given the option to contribute to the programme through the registration process. They can choose the amount they wish to donate by ticking a box on the registration form (US$5, $15 or $25). The funds collected are transferred to the organization or project after the conference.
Triangle Project selected for the HIVR4P Local Charitable Giving Programme
Triangle Project’s mission is to contribute to eradicating discrimination against and within the LGBTIQ+ community, and to provide defined services to LGBTIQ+ persons until they are no longer required. Having operated for almost 40 years, Triangle Project’s intersectional feminist approach to advocacy and strong community networks ensures that the most marginalized people in our communities remain at the centre of our efforts.
Donations collected during HIVR4P will be allocated to the following programmes:
- Safe Spaces, which supports hubs of community-based LGBTIQ+ activism and movement building across the Western Cape, providing workshops, training and mentoring to groups on areas such as HIV prevention and treatment, sexual and reproductive health and political education.
- Health and support services, particularly for LGBTIQ+ individuals who are homeless or living in insecure housing, and in rural areas. Rural areas typically lack LGBTQI+ affirming services, particularly surrounding HIV and sexual and reproductive health, and are experiencing rises in new HIV infections among LGBTQI+ people. Triangle Project’s health and support services include provision of office-based and outreach clinical health care covering assistance with access and adherence to HIV medication, CD4 count and viral load testing, distribution of safer sex “pleasure packs“, nutritional support and counselling.
By contributing to the HIVR4P Local Charitable Giving Programme, you will help Triangle Project’s community-led efforts to ensure the full realization of human rights, health and well-being of LGBTIQ+ persons in South Africa.
