    a platform to advance HIV prevention research. Responds to a growing consensus that effective prevention will require a combination of scientific approaches across the various fields.

  • Collaborative:

    encourages cross-fertilization among research on HIV vaccines, microbicides, treatment as prevention, and other biomedical prevention approaches.

  • Inclusive:

    scholarships for early career investigators, community advocates and journalists, and participation from resource-limited settings is a funding priority.

  • List TitleFocused:

    on biomedical HIV prevention research findings, questions and priorities specific to each approach.

Objectives

  • The conference will convene the world’s experts in HIV prevention and related fields to:
    1. Present new scientific research findings, and enhance global scientific collaborations and knowledge, in all aspects of biomedical HIV prevention research, implementation, review, education, and access.
    2. Refine HIV prevention research agendas to reflect identified opportunities and knowledge gaps, including those related to:
      1. next generation HIV vaccines and bNAbs;
      2. the primary and secondary use of antiretroviral drugs for prevention (TasP and PrEP), innovative uses of ART for prevention including longer-acting and multi-purpose applications, and PrEP roll-out and long-term PrEP use;
      3. reducing HIV stigma and expanding access to prevention, with a focus on reaching displaced and more difficult-to-reach populations;
      4. maximizing the impact of innovations in HIV testing;
      5. integrating HIV prevention agendas across disease and risk areas, co-morbidities, related fields of health including sexual and reproductive health and noncommunicable diseases, and concomitant epidemics such as that of opioid misuse;
      6. the responsive and effective design and implementation of HIV prevention trials.
    3. Advance evidence-informed and human rights-based HIV prevention approaches, tailored to reduce health disparities and meet the needs of particularly at risk and vulnerable groups including: adolescents, young adults and women in high-burden settings, displaced populations, men who have sex with men, prisoners and other incarcerated people, people who use drugs, sex workers, and transgender people.
    4. Share information on advances and challenges related to generating support and funding for biomedical HIV prevention.
